Grace Laced Mondays - February 13, 2012

I'm not really sure that this fits into "grace," but it was such a good subject that it seemed like it would fit well for my Grace Laced Mondays post. :)

I've been participating in a Ladies Bible Study using this book, Secrets of a Happy Heart by Debi Pryde. It's phenomenal, and I don't use that word lightly! I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to strengthen their faith, or simply to correct some areas of weakness.

Because the weather and holidays here have made it difficult to meet for some time, I decided to go back and refresh myself on it's contents.
Lesson one is about Happiness. Long and short (because I don't have permission to reprint contents from the book) is that you can't allow emotions to be the barometer of your faith and walk with Jesus. Essentially, the main point was there are two types of Happiness- False happiness, which is temporary and based on circumstances; and Genuine happiness, which comes with inner peace and joy, and is a gift from God. She also discusses whether genuinely happy people get sad, and the need to keep your mind on the wisdom of God.

So, I'll leave you with this, which sums it up well!

"Moreover, when God gives someone wealth and possessions, and the ability to enjoy them, to accept their lot and be happy in their toil- this is a gift from God. They seldom reflect on the days of their life, because God keeps them occupied with gladness of heart." Ecclesiastes 5:19-20, NIV

I have also heard the saying that "happiness extends from a grateful heart." Your words are so true! Thanks for sharing this book.
